Authorship Criteria
The Jurnal Pengembangan Penyuluhan Pertanian (JP3) is committed to ensuring that authorship accurately reflects the intellectual and scholarly contributions made to submitted and published manuscripts. The journal follows the principles of transparency, accountability, and responsible authorship recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance on authorship and contributorship.
1. Eligibility for Authorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript. The nature and extent of each contributor's role should be considered transparently, and authorship should not be granted solely on the basis of seniority, position, institutional affiliation, funding provision, or administrative responsibility. This approach is consistent with the principles discussed in the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
JP3 recognizes contributions to research conception or design, data collection, data analysis or interpretation, and the development or critical intellectual revision of the manuscript as relevant considerations when determining authorship. The journal expects the author team to evaluate these contributions honestly and in accordance with the applicable disciplinary standards. See the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
2. Author Responsibilities and Accountability
All listed authors are expected to review and approve the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication, confirm that the author list accurately represents the contributors, and accept appropriate responsibility for their contributions. Authors should cooperate in addressing questions about the accuracy, integrity, or reliability of the research and manuscript. These expectations reflect the accountability and transparency principles discussed in the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the journal throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have reviewed the submitted manuscript, agree to the author list and order, approve the final version, and are informed of relevant editorial communications. The corresponding author must not assume that this administrative role replaces the individual responsibilities of the other authors. See the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
3. Authorship Order
The order of authors should be determined collectively by the author team according to the relative scholarly contributions of each individual and the conventions of the relevant research discipline. The author team should discuss and agree on the author order before submission and communicate any subsequent changes to all affected authors. Authorship order should not be used to provide honorary recognition or to misrepresent an individual's contribution. For guidance on preventing and resolving authorship disagreements, consult the COPE guide, How to Handle Authorship Disputes: A Guide for New Researchers.
4. Corresponding Author
Each submission must identify a corresponding author who can communicate with the editorial office and respond to inquiries concerning the manuscript. The corresponding author must provide accurate contact information and coordinate the submission of required declarations and documentation. All co-authors should be aware of and agree to the designation of the corresponding author. The responsibilities associated with this role are discussed in the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
5. Contributors Who Do Not Qualify for Authorship
Individuals whose contributions do not justify authorship should be acknowledged appropriately rather than listed as authors. Examples may include assistance with routine technical tasks, language editing, administrative support, or other limited contributions, depending on the actual work performed. Such contributions should be described accurately, and permission should be obtained from individuals before they are named in the acknowledgements. See the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship.
6. Prohibited Authorship Practices
JP3 does not accept gift or honorary authorship, in which an individual is listed without an appropriate scholarly contribution, or ghost authorship, in which a qualifying contributor is omitted from the author list. Authors must not include or exclude individuals for personal, institutional, hierarchical, or other improper reasons. Authorship and contributorship policies should promote transparency regarding who contributed to the work and in what capacity, consistent with the COPE Core Practices, particularly Authorship and Contributorship.
7. Author Contributions Statement
All submissions should include an author contributions statement describing each author's role in the research and preparation of the manuscript. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, supervision, validation, visualization, writing of the original draft, and review and editing, where applicable. Each statement must reflect the work actually performed and must not exaggerate or misrepresent individual contributions. Transparent contribution statements are consistent with the COPE guidance on authorship and contributorship.
8. Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, reorder, or otherwise change the authorship of a manuscript after submission must be explained to the editor and supported by written agreement from all affected authors, including those being added or removed, as appropriate. The journal may suspend editorial processing while the request is assessed. Changes must not be made unilaterally by the corresponding author or any individual author. These procedures are informed by the COPE flowchart on changes in authorship.
If the authors cannot reach agreement regarding a proposed authorship change, the editor should not attempt to adjudicate the dispute solely on the basis of competing assertions. The journal may request clarification, recommend that the parties seek resolution through their institutions, and follow applicable publication ethics procedures. See the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship and the COPE flowchart on changes in authorship.
9. Authorship Disputes and Suspected Misconduct
Concerns about disputed, misleading, or inappropriate authorship should be reported to the editor with relevant supporting information. The journal will assess the concern fairly, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and follow established procedures. Where the issue cannot be resolved by the author team, the journal may seek guidance or an investigation from the relevant institution. The journal's approach is informed by the COPE authorship resources and the COPE Core Practices.
10. Authorship Declaration
By submitting a manuscript to JP3, the corresponding author confirms that the author list and contribution statements are accurate, that all listed authors have approved the submitted version, and that all authors are aware of the submission. Authors must disclose relevant funding, competing interests, and other information required by the journal. The journal may request additional declarations or documentation when necessary to verify compliance with its authorship policy. These transparency requirements are consistent with the COPE Core Practices on authorship and contributorship, competing interests, and journal management.
11. Editorial Action
If the journal identifies credible concerns regarding authorship, it may request explanations or supporting documents, suspend the editorial process while the matter is investigated, or refer the matter to the relevant institution when appropriate. If an authorship issue is identified after publication, the journal will consider appropriate action to maintain the accuracy of the scholarly record, including a correction where warranted. Such action should follow the procedures outlined in the COPE Discussion Document: Authorship and the COPE flowcharts and guidance, where applicable.
12. Policy Review
JP3 will review its authorship policy periodically to ensure that it remains transparent, practical, and consistent with developments in publication ethics. Authors are responsible for reading and complying with the journal's current submission requirements and for ensuring that the manuscript accurately represents the contributions and responsibilities of all named authors. The policy is informed by the COPE authorship resources and the COPE Core Practices.
